Hugh Moffatt: Guestbook

Richard Powell

November 11, 2008

Came across your site and thought I'd say hi. Looks like your career is going extremely well. I'm doing OK as well, still chairing a small music department at Tarrant County College Northwest. BTW, I don't know if you remember Kerby Stewart, the great high school bassist at Arlington Heights. He passed away last Valentine's day of pneumonia. His passing was a big shock to the Dallas music community. Just thought I'd let you know. Hope to hear from you sometime. Richard

Hey Hugh, It's been a while since Baker, Rice, Westmoreland, and Big Bend. Almost 40 years. My wife Valerie and I are members of All Saints Church in Mobile, AL and were excited to read that Katy is going to be here in August. I'll definitely be there. Let her know that we're happy to help her in any way while she's here. Glad I found you're web site. Will keep in touch.

Gary and I were in a dance group in Moscow with you and your wife until about three years ago. We moved to Clarkston where I was happily retired until April 1 this year when I purchased ...and BOOKS, too!, a great book and gift store at 1037 21st Street in Lewiston. My store has a very limited selection of CDs that we play at the store during the day and we also have these available for sale. I would be so very honored if I could play and sell your CDs in my store. Please contact me and let me know if this is possible. We both love your music and have two of your CDs.

We had a full house, even people on folding chairs outside, on Sunday for the last Cordelia concert and are energized to publicize your concert there July 29. It will be a different crowd that day. I will contact you via email with details but wanted to respond to your blog in the guestbook. Thanks for sharing it. Linda Edwards

Hugh -

I kept telling everybody at church,"If you miss Hugh Moffatt's concert Wed. night, you are going to kick yourself when you hear folks rave about it later." Your former church family at Bellevue Presbyterian Church in Nashville was thrilled to see you again after several years, but they were also "blown away" by your music. Thank you for being willing to spend some of your time while in Nashville this week visiting old friends and sharing your music with us. All of us at Bellevue love you and Mary (and the kids) very much, and we pray that God will continue to use your talents in ever new and exciting ways.

The new CD, "Songs from the Back of the Church," is a masterpiece. Every song is meaningful, poignant, and soul-searching. Talk about a "message in music," Wow, I have never heard a more powerful one than tonight. It was a worshipful experience in every way.

Hugh, I told you after church last Sunday that I thought your voice sounded better than ever. You said, "At least there is one thing good about getting older," but I like to think it is all of those voice lessons you got from me while singing in our choir at Bellevue! lol Seriously, I have fond memories of when you and Mary sang in our choir, esp. that Christmas Eve when you sang your version of "Mary's Child." in a darkened sanctuary under one single spot. I hate the over use of "awesome," but I can't think of a better word. "Profoundly moving" is appropriate, but that is two words so it doesn't count.

I am sorry the CD's sold out. I know several folks who are going to this web site to order one. I am glad you sent me one in advance. Sort of an "audition" I guess. Well, you passed. At least my grandchildren (ages 12 & 16) say so. They have heard it enough,
since it is playing in the car on the days I pick them up after school. Btw, they like "Angels" best, and, if I HAD to choose just one, I would pick "A Father's Prayer." Interestingly, that is the one a choir member told you she heard on the radio today.

Good luck a the Bluebird Friday night. I just hope I can get a seat. Actually, just getting in the door would be good.

Love and best wishes,

Your friend and fan,

David Spencer

I guess it's a good thing I couldn't find lyrics to "Jack and Lucy" to share with others. Whenever www.blugrasscountry.org plays that song, as performed by Delia Bell and Bill Grant my heart disintegrates and my eyes wash out of my head and I don't think my friends could handle it. But i will try to introduce them to your other works.

Thanks so much for all the great songs over the years. Hard to pick a favorite, but "Rose of my Heart" is right up there. Hope we cross paths someday here in the Pacific Northwest. Ever get down to the Portland/Salem area?

Hello Hugh
It must be at least 10 years since we have spoken. I do not know if you remember me - I used to look after the Australian Country Music magazine and live in Sydney. You came out to Australia many years ago and sang at the only ever People's Choice Awards the magazine put on along with Stacey Dean Campbell. Sadly this magazine no longer exists.
I was listening only an hour ago to Dolly Parton singing 'Old Flames Don't Hold A Candle To You' and it brought back many memories of my time with the magazine.
Years agao, I also came over to Nashville and I along with my cousin who lives in Michigan met up with you, your wife and children for bagels and coffee.
You are still performing no doubt?
If you have a moment would love to hear from you.
Cheers

Hi Hugh and family
Hello from down under!
Knowing your connection to soccer, as you know we were robbed when Italy beat us in the world Cup! Maybe we could have been up there, who knows?

Anyway, congratulations on your new CD and having Johnny Cash recording 'rose' - a cool addition to your CV.
Piet G has been having issues with his eyes, and Liz is in remission...
Stay well...

Dear Hugh

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed last night's (November 12, 2005) performance of "Corps of Discovery" at the University of Idaho. The music, the libretto, the acting, the story, and all other facets of the production were thrilling. Your opera had depth, sensitivity, and complexity. We walked out of the theater with the music still in our ears and with a new appreciation for the grand adventure that helped shape our own love for the Pacific Northwest. Thank you for sharing your vision and your talents with us.

Best Regards
Myron Schreck
